Squirrel World ~ Part 3

We've grown!!

It's been a couple weeks since we've seen the baby squirrels at Blake's parent's house. They are thriving! The can jump and scamper like a big-squirrels now...although they occasionally crash & fall. Like most youngsters, they are still a bit clumsy ~ but that just adds to their charm & silliness. While scampering along the windowsill, this little one slipped off. He really knows how to hang on good because he was literally dangling from his hind feet!

They like to climb all over Rusty...I think they think he's their mama. Rusty just stands still & they use him as a race course... running 'round & 'round him! While they are still taking bottles of goats milk, they have started enjoying puppychow & peanuts. One likes to bury his food for later...saving it for 'tomorrow'. The other one likes to eat it immediately...living for today! I wonder which one is the wisest?
It won't be long before they are ready for the outside world! Wahoo!

Those are adorable. We see adult squirrels hang from their hind feet to rob the birdfeeder, so maybe that position is a natural one. Have they got names? Thanks for sharing! VickiB

Rusty attached 'labels' to them due to their personalities. Since they will be released, we didn't necessarily want the kids to name them or bond with them too much.

One is called 'Rambo' - he's more assertive & aggressive. He will act defensive if he feels 'threatened'. So we don't reach into the cage & grab them. We open the cage & let them come out, or just slowly insert your arm & let them climb out on to it. Rambo is a but bigger & seems slightly more advanced than his brother.

The other one is 'Sly'...he's a bit slower, more laid back & not as advanced in his development as Rambo. But he's doing great & growing.

Hi Anna - We're in Georgia...west of Atlanta.

Yes, baby squirrels are darling & precious! Are you trying to raise your little hitchhiker,... do you think its an orphan? If so, be sure to give it warm goats milk, not regular cows milk. That (along w/ lots of TLC for my brother-in-law, & in-laws) is the reason these little guys thrived. I hope to have a final post about the squirrels tomorrow. They are going wild & have started building their own nests.
Good Luck with your squirrels!
